Child Sex Tourism is the commercial sexual exploitation of children by a person who travels from their own country to another country in order to have sexual contact with a child. It also includes a person who engages in sexual acts with a child while overseas.
Although tourism is not the cause of child sex tourism, it has increased the opportunities available for exploiters to easily exploit vulnerable children. Tourism is often promoted as the engine of economic growth and has taken over traditional sources of employment. As a result, children and youths are placed in a high risk situation as they are forced to migrate to tourist areas for work. Children are also trafficked from poor communities and are made to work in the commercial sex trade as there is a big demand for children for sex.
